You are taking issue with the content of netnews and making it sound like you
are being critical of the netnews paradigm. I think that listservs have
some good uses. I don't see why listservs have to be BITNET specific.
I subscribe to them all the time and I'm not on BITNET. However, listservs
suffer from many of the same problems as large internet mailing lists. They
fill up mailboxes with individual copies of information. This is not necessary.
They frequently are linked to netnews newsgroups. This should not be necessary.
[Yes, I know why it is, but someday, these reasons should go away.]
I endorse the idea of a LISTSERV RFC. I think it would be a great idea. I'd
be happy to work on an implementation as well.
