ventured almost inside the beltway yesterday and today and heard what our
wonderful Congress is doing to fix the problems of acceptable use policy!
John Sigmond of the House Science Committee reported to the telestrategies
conference that the house was adding as a rider to all NSF related
legislation the proviso that commerc`ial use of the NSFnet backbone was
now OK - as long as such use ADDS VALUE to the network operation!
I asked him if they had a definition of what it meant to "add value" he
said that he did NOT! Anyone here who thinks that this new law will be a
great step forward in solving AUP problems?{_
Also anyone there hear a word about when gov't funding for the backbone
will quit? I didn't.
I *DID* hear doubt expressed that the NSF will make the may deadline for a
draft version of its solicitation}. This of couse comes after it's
missing february as a deadline. forgive me my typos please.
