The cisco product line includes an HSCI interface board and HSSI
applique which will clock at ~50 Mbps. At least, we have them
here at SURAnet. We have not done testing to determine the
throughput of the interface. The cards did ship later than expected
by a couple of months but we have had them since December. Perhaps
ANS's are delayed due to the huge number of orders cisco has
received for these... :-)
The problems with the IBM routers have been described by Mark K.
in his monthly reports. I don't recall any problems caused by
"the high volume of broadcast traffic".
The number of networks on the backbone is a known problem that
is probably the hottest topic at this week's IETF, as it is one
of the issues in the exhaustion of the IP address space.
