I congratulate Laura on her equitable discussion. The issue is really
not just hardening the regionals, but hardening - or tempering - network
connections generally.
We know already one way: Have a single entity operate and manage the
entire end-to-end connection. This is the ESNET and NSI model. But
the tools for management over multiple administrations are still under
development - being forged in the crucible of daily abuse, as it were -
so we'd still have something to do even if all the autonomous networks
involved were perfect.
NSF is supporting the FARNET workshop, and we welcome all constructive
input on this important but very difficult subject.
