I find it most interesting that the cable companies are so interested in
fighting the entry of new players into the home networking game. They
had an ideal opportunity when this all started and broadband LAN technology
was more common. They chose to not enter the field. Now that they have
missed the window of opportunity, it appears their direction is going to
be to try and stop anyone else from offering a service they refused to
provide.
It's a real shame that we had a wire going into such a large number of homes
(other than the one from Bell who was not permitted to offer the service) and
now 10 years later, we are still arguing about how to get the service to our
doorstep.
