US SPrint plans wide-area LAN internet service

WASHINGTON, D.C. - US Sprint Communications Co. last week became the
first of the Big Three long-distance carriers to announce plans for
a router-based LAN interconnect service.
The offering, dubbed SprintLink, will support TCP/IP transmissions
among LANs tied by dedicated lines to routers at US Sprint POPs.
..initially offered to federal govt. users, 2nd quarter 1992, and
may eventually be rolled out to commercial customers.
Using Cisco routers, at speed from 9.6K to 1.544M bit/sec.
A single link can support:
SprintLink
SprintNet (packet network service)
Sprint Frame Realay
The service will carry a flat monthly charge per access router port,
and a one-time service fee.
SprintLink will provide a gateway to the Internet.
US Sprint announced it has joined the Commercial Internet Exchange
Association (CIX).
