Brian Lloyd makes a good point about dialup IP being easier and easier
to do. Jack Haverty pointed out that UUCP and Fido protocols have
advantages in queueing and "store-and-forward" capability.
Solution: do both! UUCP-over-TCP is not only practical, it's in fairly
widespread use. When EFF first came onto the Internet, we moved the
UUCP connection to a UUCP-over-TCP connection, and then changed to NNTP
and SMTP later.
A KA9Q-Waffle hybrid that did UUCP over TCP would be a real good way to
get 'low end' sites into using dialup IP...
