And all along, I thought that the challenge to the "Central" computer centers
at universities and research labs came from "departmental" computing which 
resulted from the availability of super-minicomputers (like the VAX). I suppose
that one could argue that the more recent spread of "workstations" into 
offices was a cause of the demise of central computer centers...EXCEPT that 
the CCC is still alive... 

This attempt to inject some historical perspective probably doesn't matter
since:

Which is an interesting indictment of them all...
