Whups.. My apologies.. I cut a little too much when I copied
the help file into mail.
There are two levels of service. One is pay by the minute,
the other is flat monthly fee plus a charge for mail.
In the pay by the minute, you are charged ~$0.22/minute for
2400 bps access via the CompuServe network. That's $12.80/hr.
The rates are higher for 9600bps or other data networks.
Under the flat montly fee, otherwise known as basic services,
you are charged $7.95 a month and given a $9.00/month mail
allowance. Sending messages (or receiving Internet messages)
are charged at the rate of $0.15 for the first 7500 characters
and $0.05 for each additional 2500 or fraction thereof.
Let's use your example of a 30kb message sent out 5 times
per month. Under the flat fee model at 2400 bps, it would
take approximately 3 minutes to download the message. That
translates into $3.20 / month. Under the basic service model,
it would be $3.00 against the $9.00 EMAIL allowance. There
would be no additional charges for mail, only the $7.95/month
charge.
