"Applying the Internet: Corporate, Research, Educational,
Governmental, and Other Real-World Uses," Daniel P. Dern,
Byte, February 1992, pages 111-118.

Gives examples including Argonne National Labs, multi-university
simulations, archie, on-line library catalogs,education role-playing
simulations, the CIX, the World, Internet Chat Relay, and a tad more.

This intent of this piece was to help answer the question, just what
_do_ people/companies do with/on the Internet, and how is it relevant
to companies and people who may not be academics or researchers.

Thanks to all those who helped. I did my best to 'timestamp' the facts
to 'future-proof' the discussion against the inevitable further
developments (e.g., on archie) happening between end of writing and hitting
the press.
