The only problem with sending VISA/MC numbers over the net is that
somebody else can copy them, even inadvertently, into a crook's hands.
There are already too many cases of phone fraud where goods and services
are ordered with a stolen card numbers.

I wonder if there isn't some way of sending a vendor a charge card number
over the network without risking its compromise.  A good opportunity for
a public-key cryptographic service, yes?
