Bill -
I make my living as an Internet consultant specializing in cost justification
of the Internet for business. I have been conducting a series of workshops
around the US and Canada on this topic, and the displacement of fax or
courier service fees is certainly a part of that.
I recently did an actual case study analysis on fax displacement for the
Internet Business Report and its editor Robert Herzberg. In this case - when
all costs displaced and investment required was considered, it was a "wash".
However, given the dedicated access nature of some Internet facilities,
adding other "cost displaceable" applications could occur at relatively
minimal incremental investment, thus making this a prudent decision.
I am not certain when this issue will be published, but would certainly be
willing to discuss this "off-list".
