Come now, let's not confuse the issues with the facts.
All seriousness aside, it would behoove some of the voluminous commentators
(and perhaps benefit the rest of us) to reread the documents describing
the new architecture of the NSFNET, the solicitation, and the GIX-related
papers.
New NSFNET Architecture
o NSF Implementation Plan for Interagency Interim NREN; Aiken,
Braun, Ford, Claffy; May 1, 1992;
ftp.merit.edu/cise/recompete/impl.ps
o New NSFNET Backbone Services; Aiken; May 15, 1992;
ftp.merit.edu/cise/recompete/aiken_hpcc_nren.ps
Solicitation
o NSF 93-52 - Network Access Point Manager, ...; May 6,1993;
ftp.merit.edu/cise/recompete/nsf9352
o Program Solicitation NSF93-52, Amendment No.2; June 22, 1993;
[This contains the NSF's answers to questions submitted in
response to the solicitation]
GIX
o Proposal for Global Internet Connectivity; Almes, Ford, Lothberg;
June 12, 1992; nic.nordu.net/gix.ps
o DRAFT Distributed GIX Specification; Eidnes; November 24, 1993;
nic.nordu.net/d-gix-proposal.ps
MAE-EAST
o Did anyone write anything down?
