Commercial Internet Use
QUESTIONNAIRE
*******************************************************************
The following questionnaire has been designed to aid in the
research being done by NSTN Inc., in cooperation with Industry
Canada, in defining those requirements necessary to make the
Internet relevant to small and medium sized business in Canada.
As a result of this research, a report will be produced which
outlines those services that are presently available to business
users, the benefits of current business use, access alternatives
for contemporary use, and those services required for small and
medium sized business to reap the full commercial potential of
global internetworking.

INTERFACE
This question focuses on what looks back at you when you connect to
the Internet: your computer screen.
1. Through what interface do you interact with the Internet?
(i.e. dial up to a Vax-based interface; dial up to a Unix-
based interface; interact through software installed on your
computer, such as Eudora or Minuet or MacSLIP or ...)
How does this interface help and/or hinder your Internet use?
(For example, are you required to know a variety of unfamiliar
commands? Is it clunky?)
ACCESS
This question looks at the characteristics and/or restrictions of
your Internet connection.
2. Do your current access features (baud rate, dialup or leased
line, usage costs) limit your ability to do what you want to
do? (i.e. Is the speed of connection too slow? Are you faced
with busy signals? Are online costs too pricy?) What factors
are stopping you from having, what you would consider to be,
the ideal Internet connection?
SERVICES
These questions consider the applications and services made
available via the Internet.
3. How would you like to be using the Internet for business
purposes but have not been able? (i.e. what services would
you like to be using; what services would you like to be
providing).
(For example, the lack of a current "White Pages" or online
company directory makes it almost impossible for you to lookup
electronic addresses of current or potential clients or
suppliers; OR you wish to process credit card payments via the
Internet but the service is not yet available.)
4. What limitations have you found in your business use of
Internet applications and/or network services? (i.e. need
more customers and suppliers online; network lag; security
issues)
ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY
Pull up a soap box, the floor is yours!
5. What issue(s) of commercial Internet use have not yet, in your
view, been properly addressed?
