After reading it I withdraw my apology for lampooning Mitch Kapor and your organization in my prior correspondence. Contrary to your claims of Jeffersonian heritage, your platform reveals the true nature of your efforts to appropriate and control the property of others to advance what you cavalierly call the civic good. I am refering in particular to your call for "a new social contract" ensuring a "Universal Service" guarantee. You observe that "Re-creation of old patterns of subsidy may no longer be possible nor necessarily desirable, but serious thought must be given to sources of funds that will guarantee that users who are economically disadvantaged will still have access to basic communications services." You then quite eloquently define this brand new middle class entitlement. Further reading reveals the principle by which these funds will be obtained : "The scope of these obligations should certainly be proportionate to the companies' market presence." I believe that this fundamental principle was first described in general terms over one hundred years ago - "From each according to his ability - to each according to his need." Wearing the cloak of Thomas Jefferson while practicing the philosophy of Karl Marx is both deceitful and downright shameful. Truth in labeling demands that you make it very clear, particularly to people from whom you solicit funds, exactly what you stand for. I would very much like to maintain our dialogue in hopes that you may someday correct this fundamental error. Meanwhile, carry on with your other very appropriate efforts to reduce government intrusion in our lives. Respectfully, Adam Selene
