Recently, the Net has been buzzing with discussion of a
group that calls itself the "International Internet Association"
and uses the initials of the Information Industry Association:
"IIA." Both "Information Industry Association" and "IIA" are
trademarks and service marks of the Information Industry
Association. We have no relationship whatever to the
"International Internet Association."
The Information Industry Association is a trade
association, founded in 1968, that actively represents more than
500 organizations involved in the generation, distribution and
use of information in the United States and throughout the
world. In recent years, our activity has increasingly embraced
matters relating to the Internet.
Our members range from small entrepreneurial enterprises to
Fortune 500 firms-- from database providers to software
developers, telecommunications and computer hardware companies
to financial institutions, optical publishers to audiotext
providers. For the past quarter century, we have been the only
trade association addressing the broad concerns and diverse
policy interest of industry in our dynamic field.
While many people are already familiar with the Information
Industry Association as a leading voice in information policy
debates, including such topics as copyright, privacy and
government information policy, you'll soon be hearing still
more from us on the Net. We are about to roll out the first
issue of our Internet-based newsletter, "Information Policy
Online." The newsletter will provide news, views and primary
documents that give the viewpoint of our industry on current
information policy developments. To subscribe, send a message
to iiaipo-request@his.com and enter "subscribe" in the text of
your message.
Don't be confused! The Information Industry Association
was here first -- by about 25 years -- and "International
Internet Association" has no relationship to us.
