Finley,

Well, today you may not be using encryption on your communication, but
I supect that in near future you will want to shop, do banking, or
send a letter to a collegue about your business that you wouldn't
want your competitors to know about; then you will want to encrypt
to prevent your corrispondence from becomming public.

What is so insidious about cliper is that the government is insuring that
they will always be able to listen in to whatever you write or say. The
Digital Telephony bill that the FBI is sponcering will force all networks
to have instant & easy access for law enforcement. Now while they are
not supposed to listen in on content (what you say) w/o a warrent the
law, if enacted, will grant them access to call setup info WITHOUT a
warrent! This means that they will know when you call, who you call (or
e-mail), and how long you call for every call in real-time. This also
means that if you have a celular phone (or pcs) they will be able to
track WHERE you are at all times!

If this stuff does go into effect (and it will unless we speak out now)
you had better pray that all future governments are benevolent, or they
may be the last government we ever elect! This may seam a little
paranoid, but I'd rather be free to be paranoid than have everything I
say watched by big brother. Eastern Europeans see this as a given, why
don't we?

Matt

P.S. I will be glad to discuss this further or send (point you to) more
info.
