National Science Board action

At its meeting today, the National Science Board made the following three
resolutions:

"RESOLVED, That the National Science Board approves the making by the
Director at his discretion of a grant, contract, or other arrangement with
MCI, for the operation of the very high speed Backbone Network Service
(vBNS) in an amount not to exceed $50,000,000 under the direction of
Richard Liebhaber for a period of 60 months."

"RESOLVED, That the National Science Board approves the making by the
Director at his discretion of a grant, contract, or other arrangement with
Merit, Inc., for the NSFNET Routing Arbiter in an amount not to exceed
$11,099,743 under the direction of Eric Aupperle for a period of 60
months."

"RESOLVED, That the National Science Board approves the making by the
Director at his discretion of a grant, contract, or other arrangement with
the University of Southern California Information Sciences Institute, for
the NSFNET Routing Arbiter in an amount not to exceed $9,235,847 under the
direction of Herbert Schorr and Jon Postel for a period of 60 months."

A formal and more comprehensive press release has been prepared, but
inasmuch as Federal Government offices in the Washington DC area are
closed today because of weather, it will not be issued until Monday.
