Your characterization of this as a content issue is incorrect.
The issue was not the content, the issue was that they guy posted a
copy of this thing, one at a time, to over 1,500 discussion groups.
I believe that answers all your concerns.
It's reasonable to believe that the result would have been the same no
matter what the content.
