I must have missed something here. The people at ANS told me that
there was no longer a T-1 in place next to every T-3. They told
me this in April of 1993 ! They decided to take down the "old T-1"
network and use the T-3 system. It would save money. There might
be a T-1 here and there , between important points but, I was told
that a parallel T-1 network no longer existed. Speaking of T-1's in
parallel - Backup is a valid reason but, I would question the way
such lines might be positioned. If there is a T-1 in the college
park area is it because the MCI circuits there are unstable. I know
that Digital Express had one heck of a time with just the T-1 they
were using. Doug must have pulled his hair out. Fiber is only as
good as the people who design it, build it and manage it - MCI tends
to get others to build it and lease it back to them. In alot of cases
they don't even have management control. Yes, I know they have "content
control", I am talking about management control. Its just not their glass.
Hopefully we will see some changes in network design and sub-vBNS networks
attached and of equal or larger size. If MCI can't handle T-3 how do you
think they will handle OC- ???? Proof will be in the deliverly and how it
all performs. My guess is we will see the same old stuff. Only time will
tell.
