sending users stock answers

I know this has been discussed before, and some people send the user the
entire stock answers, others (like me) just send them the pointer. At
any rate, what I would like to talk about is doing this... but when we
send them mail. Do we really have to send them the entire stock answer
when we send them mail? We're already letting them be lazy once (when
people send them the stock answer and not the pointer in a message).
Is there a problem with sending them the pointer over e-mail? The
original reasoning for sending them the stock answer is that it is
easier for users. (Which I think is a bogus excuse, but...) Do we also
have to do this over email?
