The RS/6000 /bin/athena/tcsh does not support this syntax for history:
!cmd:$-1
On other athena workstations this substitutes the next-to-last word from the
last command beginning with "cmd". This is an incompatibility. I use this
feature a lot.
(The tcsh version is
"tcsh 6.00.03 (Cornell) 10/20/91 options 8b,nls,dl,dir".)
