It does allow this.  This is probably the most least-known feature, but
it is advertised (from the README file on the "athenadoc" locker):

     To  view  any particular page, type the page number to which you would
     like to go and then hit <RETURN>.  For every document,  the  table  of
     contents is on page "i".  To get to there type

            i <RETURN>

     From  the contents, you can go anywhere in the document, since you now
     have all the page numbers in front of you.
