What's wrong:
$HOME is set to /afs/athena.mit.edu/u/s/username, not
/mit/username. This makes my csh prompt much too long. This
behavior was not present in 7.3.
The change was intentional. Not canonicalizing the home directory
path cause emacs' prompts for file names to be much too long. The csh
prompt problem can be fixed, e.g. by using %d instead of %D. If you
need more help with this, I suggest you ask olc or read the man page
for the shell you are using (if it is not Athena csh).
What should have happened:
The behavior shouldn't have changed, and if it was intended,
it should have been documented (I couldn't find it in 'help').
It is documented, in section 7.13 of the system release notes. But
you're right, that's probably not sufficient. I will forward your
report to the documentation group.
