System name: whirlwind
Type and version: R2000a??? 7.3P (1 update(s) to same version)
Display type: PMAG-DV
(the actual machine is a DECstation 5000/25 with a colour monitor.
I don't know why sendbug puts that "R2000a???" garbage in)
What were you trying to do?
Use "comp" to compose email. I invoked it as follows:
athena% comp &
I backgrounded it since the editing is done in an emacs window,
and it is handy to be able to execute commands in the xterm to get
information that I need.
When I've finished editing the mail (and save with C-x C-s C-x C-c)
I get the message "What now?". I then hit enter to get an Athena
prompt, and use "fg" to put comp in the foreground.
Just in case you need to know, I don't have much in my .mh_profile,
just the following:
Signature: Reid M. Pinchback
ali: -alias MailAliases
send: -alias MailAliases
whom: -alias MailAliases
My Mail directory contains the components and replcomps files so
I can append a signature to mail files. I modified them as per
the directions in the OLC stock answer on appending signatures.
What's wrong:
After I foreground the task... it hangs.... I can't tell it to
list or send the message. I end up using C-c to break out of it,
and then I use comp to resend the mail with the existing draft.
What should have happened:
I shouldn't have to break out of whatever script it is that is
running. I should be able to send the email I've composed.
I've only had this problem on a DECstation 5000/25. I've never
had it happen on a DECstation 3100, or an RT, or a VAXstation.
It doesn't just happen on my DECstation 5000/25... it happened
on central.mit.edu as well.
Note: this doesn't happen when I login as mwm_user. Because of
this, I suspect the bug may have something to do with how comp
uses the "components" file or Mail aliases, since those are the main
differences between my environment and the mwm_user environment.
And no, I haven't made any resent changes in how my mail environment
works.
