I believe your problem is with your xterminal configuration. Are all
fonts that are available loaded up? I suggest you run xlsfonts to see
what is and is not present. The Xterminal's that I've seen provide you
with a small built ion font set, but an extended one available to be
loaded as needed over the network. Perhaps your xterminal is not
configured properly.

What error do you get? Maybe it's silently failing on fonts or something
else. You also did not name the brand of X terminal that you were using,
so we cannot help you.
