I run the csh, and have been fond of putting my history character into my main
prompt. Recently (i.e., ~last week) this stopped working, unless the history
character is the default history character. Actually, putting `!' into your
prompt works no matter what history character you are using. Since this is
not the behaviour on other systems, and has not been here until recently, I
suspect that someone has been tampering with the csh.
