As of 6.0, emacs cursors have supposedly been set up to behave like
xterm cursors; that is, the cursor is dark when the input focus is on
the window in question. This is indeed the way that xterms behave.
Emacs, on the other hand, darkens the cursor when the mouse cursor is
in the window regardless of the input focus.
True, for most users, the window with input focus is always the one
with the mouse cursor in it, but this will not be true for window
managers that require you to explicitely select windows and is already
not true for people (like me) who often use the uwm f.focus
function...
Just to be consistent, I will be glad to give a demonstration...
