Subject: DEC3100 workstations in 37-312
Date: Mon, 17 Feb 92 10:48:28 EST
There are problems with some of the DEC3100 workstations.
M37-312-20 Doesn't let me log in. Says "Workstation failed to
activate successfully. Please notify Athena
Operations."
M37-312-14 Characters typed from keyboard do not come up on
screen as expected, especially when typed fast.
(Just last night it was working fine.)
M37-312-8 Does not recognize its floppy drive
M37-312-19 Is not working.
Also, one of the DEC5000 workstations:
M37-318-6 Is not working.
I have not tried all of the workstations, these are just the ones that
I know have problems. Also, none of the DEC workstations know how to
set the size of the archive media when using floppies with the "tar"
command. This problem can be circumvented by specifying the size of
the media in the "tar" command line, but it would probably be better
if these machines had the size set in the /dev/floppy or /dev/rfloppy
files. Also, for some reason using "tar" without specifying the size
of the archive media results in a message about not finding
"/dev/rfloppc" which might be what "/dev/floppy" and "/dev/rfloppy"
are symbolically linked to. I've heared that "rfloppc" is a
typographical error and should be "rfloppy". Even when I specify
"/dev/rfloppy" in the "tar" command however, the size of the floppy is
not set unless I specify it explicitly.
