Use the whois command to query the NIC whois database
What's wrong:
The following message is displayed, presumably because
the AIX whois command has the wrong hostname/IP addr
compiled in for the NIC:

Hi! You have attempted to contact a whois server at SRI-NIC.ARPA.
Your WHOIS client program is either extremely old or your software
vendor is really out of it. Please complain to them.
To contact the current DDN NIC WHOIS server, it will be
necessary to either:
a) Use a command-line option to tell your WHOIS client
to connect to a different host (NIC.DDN.MIL),
b) Or, recompile WHOIS with the CORRECT name for the DDN NIC,
NIC.DDN.MIL, in place of the ancient SRI-NIC.ARPA.
For further information about the DDN NIC, please contact the new
contractor, GSI, at 1-800-365-3642. Thank You.
