I'll bet her file was on NFS.
I had the same problem recently with a file I was fetching via NFS.
If you look at the file, it contains MANY MANY blocks of nulls appended
to the end by a bug in NFS.
Yes, children, yet another NFS nulls bug!
It happened to me across a DELNI!
