You should reply to the user that this is a known bug in the Megapel X server.
The same sort of thing also occurs in using the Paralax Color devices
also available in the Fish Bowl.
I don't fix X servers (any more).
If this same problem occurs on a Monochrome screen, on a Vax, RT, or
DECMIPS, I would be interested in a copy of the file and a transcript of
the key hits and mouse clicks to repeat the problem.
