All the problems I know of associated with xcalc dumping core on
arithmetic errors have been fixed in X11R5. This includes the example
you have just described.
If you run xcalc regularly enough for this to bother you, you might
consider running it out of the x11r5 locker, until the time comes when
Athena starts running X11R5.
