One of my friends, whose username is mdtanner, tried today to log in but
couldn't because aphrodite was down. The system did not offer him the option
of attaching a temporary directory. When he attempted to login through the
tty login, the system did offer him that option. He eventually logged in as
root from xlogin and then did a kinit using his real username. As a result, he
got Kerberos tickets and zwgc thought that he was mdtanner, but the system
thought that he was root. The question here is why didn't the xlogin give him
the option of attaching a /tmp direcetory?
