It does use udp checksums for some things (for example, the portmapper and the AFS bos server). I don't know how it decides when to use checksums; it might depend on whether the socket was created by the kernel or a user level program. Someone with AIX 3.1 source access should check and find out how to turn on UDP checksums for NFS. I did most of this testing using a public configuration RS/6000 (splat) so this probably matches what we have deployed.
