What were you trying to do?
Well, I'm not sure what one of our users was trying to do, but
the problem we found at UCSC also happens on this machine.
The user had created a .environment file containing the single line
setenv ZWGC `/usr/etc/zwgc -ttymode`
What's wrong:
sourcing the above file hangs the user absolutely; no ctrl-C or
ctrl-D or ctrl-Z or ctrl-Q or anything else I tried will get you
out of it. So the user can't log in, and can do nothing but
break the connection. Superuser has to figure out what's wrong
and remove the offending file.
What should have happened:
Something more graceful.
