What were you trying to do?
I was doing a login solely to check if I had any mail, to see if
I had anything that required my immediate attention. I was in a great
hurry at the time. My homedir didn't attach, and the login sequence
started to go through a temporary directory creation process, which I
killed (control-C) at the earliest possible opportunity (being fully
aware that some thing would not get created or run). I just wanted to
check mail and leave.

What's wrong:
Why does 'msgchk' need to have a mail directory in existence,
and try to create one if it doesn't exist? This seems unnecessary.
Creation should be the responsibility of 'inc'.

What should have happened:
msgchk should simply have told me whether I had mail or not,
without bothering to hassle me about creating a directory into which to
put my possibly non-existent mail.

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
	msgchk(1)
