You recently sent the bug report below to "bugs".

There is no bug here. When it is not possible to contact a machine
over the network, either because the machine itself is down or because
the network between your workstation and the machine is down, the
behavior you describe is what results.

If you had waited long enough (for the network connection request to
time out; usually on the order of one minute), finger would have
printed an error message such as "connection timed out" or "netowrk is
unreadable" and exited.

   System name: test-2000
   Type and version:	VAXSTAR 7.2R
   Display type: SM

What were you trying to do?
remotely finger a person at another Internet node
	   (i.e. "finger j_haytock@acc.haverford.edu" )

   What's wrong:
the computer displayed "[acc.haverford.edu]" - which is normal
in the cursor appears and waits for more input - which is not normal.

   What should have happened:
"[acc.haverford.edu]" should be displkayued , then after a
brief pause , the status of j_haytock (ie. not logged in or current
      location and time logged in.)

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
cursor juist appears to wait for an indefinate amount of input.
^C must be used to exit loop.
