update_ws failures

I was just updating a machine, and this error went by:
Updating block device file ttyqf chown (0.0 -> 0.885)
Removing ttypf
Removing ptypf
done.
Updating kernel...
/: write failed, file system is full
cp: /vmunix: No space left on device
done.
Updating version...done
If it fails to update the kernel, it should print LOUD MESSAGES ON THE
SCREEN and beep so that the user doesn't then reboot and discover that
the machine now needs to be reinstalled. Luckily, I saw this and can
fix it before rebooting.
