What were you trying to do?
Send mail to several non-Athena addresses
What's wrong:
A few of the machines were unavailable and the mail was not sent to those
machines (as implied by the error messages). Most of these addresses were
valid ones, as I've sent successfully to them before.
What should have happened:
In the case of recoverable errors (unable to contact a system, time-out, etc.),
the mail should automatically be queued and multiple attempts made over a
period of time as long as a few days, rather than quitting on the very first
attempt. Even "dumb" UUCP queues and retries and sends a final failure message
only after a few days!
