I was fiddling with my environment variables for LaTeX, and I discovered a
couple bugs.
(1) The variable TEXFORMATS will not yield correct results if it is set to
.:/usr/athena/lib/tex/macros, as the man page states is the default. Rather,
proper operation requires that TEXFORMATS be set to
.:/usr/athena/lib/tex/formats -- why is this?
(2) Apparently, the variable TEXTFM as listed in the manpage is not the correct
variable to point to TFM files for TeX to use. Rather, I found that TeX could
only work properly if TEXFONTS were set to a particular path. (In this case, I
needed a TFM for a font not available anywhere except in SIPB, and I didn't
feel like copying the fonts to my directory.)
