Please describe the problem in detail (mention any necessary files or
commands that may be involved, on which machine the bug happened, and what
the program did that was wrong):
machine -- m16-034-15 (an RT)
Does passwd work on RT's? If not, it probably should. If it does,
more descriptive error messages would be nice. Even something like
"Unknown reply, please try again later", would be more helpful....

passwd (on an RT)
(a user told me that it didn't work, and I couldn't get it to work
either. )

Fix (if you know what it is):
Fix the program so it works on RT's, or enhance the error
messages.
