System name: jump-master
Type and version:	KN01 7.1H (1 update(s) to same version)
Display type: PM-MONO

What were you trying to do?
Log into a DECstation on console or over dialup

What's wrong:
more, emacs, and just about any program that uses curses doesn't
run correctly. more echos the escape sequence to the screen, rather
than interpreting them. Emacs doesn't start, rather it echos the
message:

emacs: Terminal type "vt100" is not powerful enough to run Emacs.
It lacks the ability to position the cursor.
If that is not the actual type of terminal you have,
use the C-shell command `setenv TERM ...' to specify the correct type.
It may be necessary to do `unsetenv TERMCAP' as well.

If I do as emacs suggests, or use the term alias, everything is
fine. However, I shouldn't have to do it.

What should have happened:
My terminal should be set correctly when I log in.
