Hi! Some MIT staff people are trying to register for athena accounts
(because they're special students, or think they're otherwise eligible
for an account), and are getting the message that they can't register
for an account, but can register a username in the campus namespace.
They do so, and their status gets changed to "Enrolled/Not
registerable".
When they then contact us about getting a "real" athena account, we
end up having to build the account by hand. If we set their status to
"Enrolled/registerable" and they try to register, they can't select
the username they already selected; instead it tells them that it is
already taken. If we set them to "Half-registered", they are able to
use register and set a password, but their account doesn't really get
set up all the way -- all they get is the hesiod passwd info (no
group, grplist, filsys, or pobox).
It would be nice if "Enrolled/registerable" would let people use
register to set a password, and then create their accounts
successfully.
Thanks!!
Carla
