What were you trying to do?
read the manual page man(1).
What's wrong:
It has some missing text, probably indicative of broken troff
macros:
If the standard output is a teletype, the command completes
^^^ "man" probably missing;
weird use of "completes"
the following: pipes the output through using the option -s
^^^ cat(1) missing
to eliminate unnecessary blank lines and invokes to display
^^^ page(1) missing.

What should have happened:
The man page should be readable without looking at its troff input.
