Part of what you reported is a bug. Often when a KillClient request is sent
to an X application, unless specially prepared to handle the event, the client
will print messages like you reported.
Your comment that you had to hit return to see your prompt is not a bug, but
a fact of Unix. If a process running in the background decides to send text
to your terminal, it may. Because you can't see the prompt is not the
programs fault.
In the future, may I suggest that you use sendbug in reporting bugs. It would
help us as it would tell us such information as machine type and version.
I assume your are running with 7.1 packs as kermerometer was
not available in 7.0, but I could not tell if what you are reporting might
be related to a bug in the X server which could only be
discovered by knowing what version of software your machine is really running.
