error in finger command

I logged into hawaii (6.0c machine) from jj.lcs.mit.edu. I tried
executing :
hawaii!175(ilham)% finger ilham
finger: Can't stat /dev/jj.lcs.m
Then I tried "f ilham:" and that worked fine. After that I tried finger
on other people who were logged in (eg: paul) and also poeple who were
not logged in to hawaii. That also worked. The only difference that I
can think of it that I am using X Windows from a non-athena host. Still
it should not give me that error.
