I started a shell buffer with "M-x shell".  In that buffer, I can
start a "sleep 30" process and kill it with ^C^C; however, if I start
a "ping" process running, I have to suspend emacs, hunt it down, and
kill it.  I should be able to kill it the same way I did the "sleep".
