   Well, the situation you describe would really suck if it happened, but
   I don't see (in the default dotfiles in RT 6.0b) cdpath being set.
   I'm inclined to think that the /. files in the example you mentioned
   are an anomaly instead of an example of the current state of affairs.

   Can you demonstrate that what I say isn't true?

I don't remember whether this got a response or not...  The machine I
was on was aeneas, which I think should be fairly standard.  I just
took a look at this machine (bill-the-cat), and it appears the same
way.  /.cshrc contains a line setting cdpath to "/", and also (still!)
has the "`hostname | sed /mit-//`" stuff in it for editing the prompt.
It would seem to me to be the current state of affairs.
