I found this in an olc log. If you want to follow it up, you should
contact the user who had the problem. He may or may not be able to give
you further details. (usrname: shanega)

Log extracts:

I am compiling a large file of code on an RT. The code itself has
been ported to many other platforms, including Vaxes, PCs, Suns, etc.
On the RT, however, the compiler indicates a segmentation fault and crashes
during compilation.

I am compiling with compiler switches on. Here is the compiler line I use:

cc -I/usr/include/X11 -I/tmp/dsp/x -I/mit/shanega/io -I/tmp/dsp/dadhead -c -g (f
ilename.c)

the compiler crashes out with the message:

(cc:) /usr/lib/hc2com: Segmentation fault

Sorry, there are no lines at all printed by the compiler before crashing.
It is a compiler error, at least in that even if my code were SO bad that
it killed the compiler, at least it should give diagnostics. But this
code is lint-free and highly portable.

Unlimit didn't change anything, but I'll keep trying with compiler flags.
Thanks for the help. If I find anything out I'll send a message, but
I must say that this looks a lot like a compiler bug.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that the user says that the code which crashes hc is NOT public
domain (and hence he didn't want to show it to olc.) If you would like
to see the whole log, it's in the discuss meeting oc, transaction #3011.
If you do not have access to that meeting and would like to see the log,
refer to the number and I will send it to you.

Frankly, with the information I'm able to give you, I don't think you can
do anything beyond adding this report to your records. However, if you
have any sort of list of known bugs that will cause hc to seg. fault,
would you please send them to me?

Thanks.
